Tasse Expressions: You got ya whistle in Basile

When my daddy would hear someone whistling, he would say, he got his whistle in Basile. Il a eu son siffler à Basile. I told that to my children my whole life, "you got ya whistle in Basile!"

C'est fraiche, ça refraiche.

Mais ça c'est Dot à nous-autres, ça?
Hein!?
Ça c'est Dot à nous-autres?
Ouais!

(the wind comes from Basile in March, April... from the southwest...a dry wild, with dust, a pleasant wind...also called les vents de carême?)

Daddy and all his friends would gather at daddy's every afternoon and drink coffee under the pecan tree, and exchange lil expressions:

Cher!

Things I learned on la Tasse

On Swings:

In Ville Platte we say balance, mais...galance... Galance? I don't recall ever hearing that. I don't know where this French comes from... so I guess that comes from that Thibodeaux French. Just a-swangin... Hot dog! Ça serait la vie!

From the French News:

The Louisiana Swine Festival va avoir, jusqu'à à minuit, la musique par un D. J., Lucky LadyBad Weather et High Roller. Tout ca va prendre place en gym à Basile.

...Le police des Opelousas dit que vingt-trois ans d'âge Marcus DeJean avait ménacé quelqu'un avec un pistolet mercredi au soir avant il avait lead l'officier d'un course à pied.

Random Stuff:

le premier qu'a éné -first born
le nichoix- last born

Daddy and all his friends would gather at daddy's every afternoon and drink coffee under the pecan tree, and exchange lil expressions:

Cher!

Old Saying about Easter and Weather

The old saying I always heard: wait 'til Easter finishes, the weather will straighten out. That's right, I remember my mom said

Alright, well, that's... on dirait je me rapelle d'ça aussi.

Kaw!!!That's strong!

And sometimes, like ma dad, he'd make a pot of coffee in the morning and là ça rechauffé quand il buvait une 'tite tasse, une 'tite tasse café, demie 'tite tasse, demie tasse, une demie-demie tasse, et là ça c'était juste assez pour fumer, tu connais?
Hahahahahaa!
Un goût de café pour fumer!

Sounds like someone I know!

Rob Perillo is the Balm

Rob touches the comet Pan-Starrs without getting burned.

Rob Perillo is our Chief Weatherman on KATC TV 3 in Lafayette, Louisiana. People around here really love to know about the weather. They live close to the land, and Rob is always a reliable, even jovial source of weather news and lore. Not only that, Rob always has some trivia or something creative to say and tells you about comets, meteors, blue moons, hurricanes, local folklore, as well as the exact time and direction of the passing of the space shuttle at night. Sometimes I hear these little quips and put them out on my Prairie Femme Twitter account...and I usually tag +Rob Perillo, too, or otherwise troll him on his social media... so he knows how much we appreciate his wordsmithing and weathermaning!

Like this one time I commented on his status update about his use of the word "balmy", he "liked" it on Facebook (!!), then later on the news, I heard him emphasize the word- "Ladies and Gentlemen it's going to be a BALMY evening..." Just sayin.

I love when it rains and Rob says that it's "good sleeping weather".

"A smokey haze tonight. You can smell the sugarcane burning."

"The fragrance of ligustrum in the air..."

Rob says he's not just going to "overtly forecast fog for tonight." That's why we love you

Rob says that tonight's lows will be in the "sultry low mid-70s"

I love when Rob says "Let's kick it upstairs and put the radar-satellite composite in motion, baby" (I added the baby, but hey! He might have said it/might say it if he reads this.) (Bonjour Rob!!)

OR he might just say:

"Let's kick it upstairs and look at the radar satellite composite! "

"Moisture lurks in the Gulf"  yes it does.

"Nice looking cumulonimbus canopy shrouding Acadiana this afternoon. System already raining itself out...slowly..."

"It's gonna be rough out in the Gulf of Mexico so batten down the hatches!"

"No pipe issues tonight."

"The air IS juicy."

"Cirrus clouds painting pretty pastels..."

Rob Perillo just sang, "The sun'll come out, tomorrow." Details at 10.

Rob Perillo is talking about the crescent moon and Venus in the western sky. #swoon.

@robperillo recommends that you recline on a chaise lounge chair a few minutes before 8 pm in order to see the space shuttle in the western sky.

"Do expect a sultry one tonight."

"A steamy one tonight!"

"A sultry summer night and the mosquitos are certainly in play."

"Don't say Perillo didn't warn you!"

(D)Wayne Ecards

When I taught at the local high school, I had a love/hate relationship with the old school janitor, Dwayne Wayne. He taught me a lot of dirty French, because that's just how he talked. Here are a few of the insults/expressions he hurled at me daily, which I then scribbled down and collected in my "Livre de (D)Wayne"

You need a good slap salad!
I don't want to hear you screaming in the woods, no!

Force your nose in my ass and then fight for air.

Well look at Miss Smith with that little nest of hair on her head! She-devil!

Your brain is just like a little marble.

Here Daddy, It's a little new nothing in a bottomless box! Just like you always wanted.

You can just put your head in the toilet and do like you're swimmin' in the bayou.
