That's an Old Name, Yeah

I recently went to visit two 90+ year old Prairie des Femmes natives. They were wonderful, the madame charming and sweet, and I learned a lot, though I was most intrigued by the monsieur of the house. It seemed like when we talked about the Prairie des Femmes, he remembered... though in truth, he was more interested in talking about his cousin, The Boss, Adolph Bourque of Bourque's Supermarket in Port Barre.

Madame M: J'connais pas si ça c'était la Prairie des Femmes, eh bèb? (I don't know if that was the Women's Prairie, huh , babe?)

Monsieur: ha. ha. ha. Boy, das an old name, yeah...

Me: Isn't that-?

Madame F: Why was it called La Prairie des Femmes? Why?

Madame M: J'ai jamais connu... si j'ai connu j'ai oublié! hahaha (I never knew, if I knew, I forgot!)

Madame M: J'connais pas si ça ça va à la coulée des Marks, huh bèb? Le canal! Ça va à la Coulée des Marks? (I don't know if that goes to the Marks' Coulee, huh babe? The canal! Does it go to Marks' Coulee?)

Monsieur: C'est haute-... It drains from Port Barre' on...

Me: Back here, huh?

Monsieur: T-Dolph...T-Dolph Bourque...
